Reykjanes is the first glimpse of Iceland the visitor arriving by plane gets (the international airport is situated in Keflavik). It is usually just a fleeting glimpse as they immediately head off to Reykjavik and elsewhere. However, we do have a lot to see here and I have gathered a selection of photographs that show the beauty of the local countryside and seascapes throughout the seasons, as well as scenes from elsewhere in Iceland. Throughout my childhood there was always a camera in the house, but usually only used on holidays and special occasions. My interest in taking pictures developed via a great interest in movies and film making. I always took photographs on holiday, fishing trips, etc., as a casual photographer, and only became serious about taking pictures in October 2005 when I bought my first "proper" camera, a Canon 350D. Since then I have become engrossed in the process of taking photos and composition. I also got my first computer around the time of the Canon, and I use mostly for storing the pictures and going on photo.net! I have Photoshop and ACDSee Pro Manager, which I use for cropping, sharpening and highlights and shadows. When I compose my shots, I aim to get everything I need at the time of taking the picture and not have to work on them afterwards. When taking a photograph I will always try to look for a different angle from which to approach the subject and get a different perspective to the spots from which most of the tourist's get to see. Since joining Flickr this year I have really enjoyed the camaradarie within the community. I've found great pleasure and inspiration from many of the other members and their work. Some of you have been kind enough to contact me and comment on my work, and I really appreciate the support and suggestions I get from other photographers. Sorry about that. I know this is tricky for you since you havent announced him yet but what does he bring to the table for you.OBAMA: Well, as you noted, I havent made a formal announcement about my intelligence team. That may be him calling now ? finding out where its at. I have the utmost respect for Leon Panetta. I think that hes one of the finest public servants that weve had. He brings extraordinary management skills, great political savvy, an impeccable record of integrity. as chief of staff, hes somebody who to the president hes somebody who was fully versed in international affairs, crisis management, and had to evaluate intelligence consistently on a day-to-day basis. Having said all that, I have not made an announcement. When we make the announcement, I think what people will see is that we are putting together a top notch intelligence team that is not only going to assure that I get the best possible intelligence ? unvarnished ? that the intelligence community is no longer geared toward telling the president what they think the president wants to hear but instead are going to be delivering the information that the president needs to make critical decisions to keep the American people safe. I think what youre also going to see is a team that is committed to breaking with some of the past practices and concerns that have, I think, tarnished the image of the agencies and intelligence agencies and U.S. foreign policy.
